Château Fontenil Red Bordeaux Blend Fronsac 2009
Robert Parker says, "The 2009 Fontenil (95% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon) displays a deep opaque purple color as well as notes of black raspberries, spring flowers, blueberries, and a hint of blackberries. Rich and full-bodied with admirable definition and precision, sweet tannin, and a long finish of over 35 seconds, it is a super effort as well as a big time sleeper of the vintage in 2009. Enjoy it over the next 10-15 years. These appear to be the finest wines the brilliant oenologists Dany and Michel Rolland have produced at Fontenil, their home estate."
This is the first taste for me of the 2009 Fontenil (it has been lying patiently in the cellar for about 3 years). This is a deep, Merlot-red wine with a fragrance of fine Kirsch and wet sphagnum. There is white pepper (light) with bright cherry (possibly ripe cranberry sans acidity) and racy tannin on the finish. A very fine Fronsac. 91 points.

Attractive blackberry and mineral aromas and flavors, follow though to a full body, with well-integrated tannins and a medium finish. Try in 2016. James Suckling. A Bordeaux Blend wine from Bordeaux in France. 2009 Fontenil 750ml

A Bordeaux Blend wine from Bordeaux in France. 2009 Fontenil 750ml
The basic Fontenil (95% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon) has a deep bluish purple color and relatively hefty alcohol at 14.5%, but it is not noticeable in this full-bodied, layered, opulent wine, with lots of black raspberry fruit intermixed with some blueberries and crushed rock. Both of these wines have a good 10–15 years of potential in a fine cellar.
This has ample flesh, with a mouthfilling feel to the linzer torte, blackberry confiture and spice notes, all backed by sweet tobacco and fresh acidity on the finish. Very solid. Drink now through 2019.
Shows lots of blueberry, with a minerally undertone. Full-bodied, with superintegrated tannins and a long, long finish. Juicy and gorgeous, with a serious backbone of tannins. -JS Wine Spectator. A Bordeaux Blend wine from Bordeaux in France. 2009 Fontenil 750ml
