Château Figeac Red Bordeaux Blend St. Émilion Grand Cru 2007

Winemaker's Notes:

In a region with a worrying number of characterless, over-extracted, fruitbombs Ch. Figeac stands out like a shining beacon. In 2007 it has made anotherintellectual, aristocratic St Emilion from a Médoc-like blend of 40% CabernetSauvignon, 40% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc. A fine, stylish, Dundee fruitcakenose is followed by a palate with lots of stuffing for the vintage. Boastingrich plum and blackberry fruit, coffee and ginger hints and an attractivestreak of minerality, the elegant fine-grained tannins and fresh acidity ensurea glorious future. A real tour-de-force from this illustrious and revitalisedestate.

The 4 main ones are: Steep limestone slopes located near the town of Saint-Emilion (2,400 hectares), which are responsible for much of the appellation's reputation. This is where 11 of the 13 Premiers Grands Crus Classés are located. Alluvial sand on the large plain along the banks of the Dordogne. There are nearly 2,000 hectares here as well. The 3rd large sub-division, covering 1,200 hectares, is composed of a plateau located west of the town, and which extends as far as the village of Pomerol. It consists primarily of aeolian sand has extraordinary filtering powers, and is conducive to producing fine wines. Read less

A touch funky on the nose but then full of freshly tilled earth, precise red fruits, leather, cibarbox, and subtly floral herbaceous tones – rich entry, bright, a bit loose across the mp, lovely ripe tannins, comes together with elegance on the backend, lovely layered finish is a touch short but builds with fruit and spice tones (91-92)

Lovely dark color. Fruity nose of average aromatic intensity. Caressing on entry the wine develops smooth and fruity with good density and a more vivid touch on the second part of the palate. This is an enjoyable wine and true to its style. Jean-Marc Quarin - www.quarin.com
