The first bottle of my 2009 en primeur orders that I’m busting open. And I think the second wine of Pontet Canet can’t be a bad place to start. Given the lack of age and probable inaccessible tannins, I popped the cork and stood this for 10 hours before pouring. Intense inky ruby color. A dense youthful aromatic coil of sweet blackcurrant, slightly smoky mulberry, pencil lead and freshly chopped green herbs. This dry, full-bodied wine has a smooth velvet texture, high acidity and young fine powdery tannins. The fruit is evenly loaded, blackcurrant and anise prevail on the long finish, with a hint of saltish birch at the end. 14% alc. A good representative wine for the Pauillac, can’t wait to drink Pontet-Canet itself! Drink now – 2030.

A superb wine with the purest fruit, great freshness and ripeness. It is certainly structured with dry tannins, while the blackcurrant freshness is also all there. The biodynamic wine has a great limpid, flowing feel, backed by power. Wine Enthusiast. A Bordeaux Blend wine from Bordeaux in France. 2009 Pontet-Canet 18000ml

An amazing wine in every sense, this classic, full-bodied Pauillac is the quintessential Pontet Canet from proprietor Alfred Tesseron, who continues to reduce yields and farms his vineyards biodynamically andmdash; a rarity in Bordeaux. Black as a moonless night, the 2009 Pontet Canet offers up notes of incense, graphite, smoke, licorice, creme de cassis and blackberries. A wine of irrefutable purity, laser-like precision, colossal weight and richness, and sensational freshness, this is a tour de force in winemaking that is capable of lasting 50 or more years. The tannins are elevated, but they are sweet and beautifully integrated as are the acidity, wood and alcohol (which must be in excess of 14%). This vineyard, which is situated on the high plateau of Pauillac adjacent to Mouton Rothschild, appears to have done everything perfectly in 2009. This cuvee should shut down in the cellar and re-open in a decade or more. Anticipated maturity: 2025andndash;2075.

It's no surprise that proprietor Alfred Tesseron has produced a possibly perfect 2009. He's been on a roll since 1994, and no other producer has done more work in the vineyard than Tesseron, who has moved to 100% bio-dynamic farming, reduced yields d... Robert Parker's Wine Advocate. \ This has an impressive powerful and hearty structure, with seductive floral, currant and licorice aromas and flavors, showing powerful tannins at the end. This sneaks up on you at the end. Structured and very, very powerful. The blockbuster tannins are sweet and fruit-coated. This is a classic, powerful style of Ducru. May be best yet. Wow.\
