Château du Tertre Margaux 2017

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

Herbaceous nose but rather classic with tobacco, soil, dried herb, and black fruit tones – soft, rich entry, lots of ripe tannin, good underlying acids, nicely balanced, harmonious feel, approaching elegant with a lovely perfumed inner mouth character, nice length shows tobacco leaf and black currant fruit with gentle underlying wood spice (89-90)

Eager to get the very best out of his outstanding soils, which are exceptionally homogeneous and recognised as having some of the highest potential in the Margaux appellation, Eric Albada Jelgersma now sees his team rewarded for their efforts. This was very giving with it's soft and evolved nose that is very minerally with notes of steel, eggshell and earth adding interest to the gently oak spiced fruit. A touch rustic in the mouth with dusty tannins and good acidity supporting bright fruits gently seasoned with baking spices. A bit of astringency to the pomegranite seed notes on the medium length finish. Solid yet unremarkable Bordeaux that is a perfect dinner companion. 2007-2017

This is really well done with soft tannins and berry, cherry and chocolate character. Full body, with round tannins. This year has more Cabernet Franc with 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Cabernet Franc, 10% Merlot, and 10% Petit Verdot. James Suckling. This is textbook Margaux, with a supple, velvety feel and a stylish core of plum, red currant and black cherry fruit laced with perfumy spice and followed by lightly dusty tannins. -J.M. Wine Spectator. A Bordeaux Blend wine from Bordeaux in France. 2010 Du Tertre 750ml

Quite perfumy at first, with lilac, damson plum and singed bay leaf notes up front, followed by darker yet still caressing steeped black cherry, worn leather and espresso notes on the back end. Best from 2013 through 2023. -JM Wine Spectator. A Bordeaux Blend wine from Bordeaux in France. 2009 Du Tertre 750ml

Château du Tertre and its 80-hectare estate stand on the crest of the Tertre hill, the highest point in the Margaux appellation. Dating from the 12th century, this thousand-year-old property has passed through many illustrious hands, including those of Thomas de Montaigne, Pierre Mitchell and Henri de Koenigswater. The wines of du Tertre became world-famous in the 19th century, when the 1855 Classification bestowed "Grand Cru Classé" status upon the estate. Since then, the 52-hectare vineyards had remained untouched, until in 1997. Eric Albada Jelgersma, the present owner, invested heavily to resurrect the estate, combining technology with tradition. The investments he has made at the vineyards and cellars made the estate the famous great growth it is today
