Chateau du Tertre Margaux 2009

Winemaker's Notes:

Berry Bros & Rudd review: <br/> Ch. du Tertre's 2009 is a fantastic gem of a wine. With forward, fruity, fresh red and black fruit aromas, this has wonderful concentration with layers of creamy blackberries rolling across the palate, super-silky tannins and a mocha hint at the finish adding complexity. This is destined to be a lovely drinking wine in a few years' time.<br/><br/> <br/><br/> "I am not going to sit on the fence here. This is the best wine Ch. du Tertre has ever made. With forward, fruity, fresh red and black fruit aromas, this has wonderful concentration with layers of creamy blackberries rolling across the palate, super-silky tannins and a mocha hint at the finish that adds complexity. This is going to look like a bargain in two weeks too. Drink 2015-2026."<br/><br/> (Simon Staples, Berrys Fine Wine Director)<br/><br/>

Eager to get the very best out of his outstanding soils, which are exceptionally homogeneous and recognised as having some of the highest potential in the Margaux appellation, Eric Albada Jelgersma now sees his team rewarded for their efforts. A very sexy, seductive style of wine has been produced by Du Tertre in 2009. A dense ruby/purple color is accompanied by ripe notes of red and black fruits intermixed with subtle smoke, ink, and damp earth. The lusciousness continues on the palate wi... Château du Tertre and its 80-hectare estate stand on the crest of the Tertre hill, the highest point in the Margaux appellation. Dating from the 12th century, this thousand-year-old property has passed through many illustrious hands, including those of Thomas de Montaigne, Pierre Mitchell and Henri de Koenigswater. The wines of du Tertre became world-famous in the 19th century, when the 1855 Classification bestowed "Grand Cru Classé" status upon the estate. Since then, the 52-hectare vineyards had remained untouched, until in 1997. Eric Albada Jelgersma, the present owner, invested heavily to resurrect the estate, combining technology with tradition. The investments he has made at the vineyards and cellars made the estate the famous great growth it is today

the overall impression is one of a hedonistic and intellectually pleasing claret that should drink beautifully for 20+ years. This is a sleeper of the vintage among the classified-growths. "\
