Château du Bousquet Red Bordeaux Blend Côtes de Bourg 1979

I bought this bottle of wine a while ago from the website www.bidforwine.co.uk/auctions/show/21042 for under a fiver but have only now got around to drinking it.It had come from a house clearance.Chateau du Bosquet is in the Cotes de Bourg appellation, the area around the town of Bourg about 12 miles north-west of the city of Bordeaux. This appellation was originally intended to be part of the new Cotes de Bordeaux appellation in 2009 but this never happened.Chateau Bousquet is made up of 45% merlot,45% cabernet sauvignon and 10% malbec and is aged in oak barrels.I was pleasantly surprised by this wine as it did not really show its age.having very soft tannins, tasting mellow vwith plenty of fruit [think raspberries and cherries]It had obviously been well-cellared as the level was at the upper shoulder/lower neck area and the bottom half of the cork was sodden with wine.It was better than the last claret I had the Chateau Pitray

Jean Bousquet was already a successful winemaker from Carcassonne in the south of France in 1990 when he decided to relocate to Mendoza, and went on an extensive search for the ideal vineyard location. In 1997, he finally established himself in Topungato, attracted by its high altitudes (for superior grape balance), climate and rich soils. The wines are available in a line of Premium Varietals (includes Malbec, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Torrontes and a Malbec/Cab rosé), as well as Reservas, Grande Reservas and a sweet, late harvest Malbec dessert wine.  Read less
