A medium-bodied Beaujolais, bigger than a typical Beaujolais-Villages, this is a great food wine, with enough personality and character to accompany almost any dish, yet not so much that it dominates the meal. Regnié is one of the 10 crus of Beaujolais - a designation of appellation status that is awarded only to those villages that have produced a consistently high-quality product, thereby separating them from the more common Beaujolais-Villages. Chateau du Basty's vineyards lie mid-hill with perfect exposure. Theirs comes from a vineyard planted with 32-year old Gamay vines, read more...which thrive in the granite soils. A beautiful, vibrant purple-red colored wine with a spicy nose of cherries, raspberries, and baked fruits. On the palate, Regnié is bigger and more full-bodied than a Beaujolais-Villages, with complexity and tannins that give it aging potential. It is medium-bodied and round with delicious sensations of ripe fruit, balanced with just the right amount of acidity. Can be slightly chilled. Food friendly - ideal for picnics or lunches on warm fall days.
