Château Doisy-Védrines Sémillon-Sauvignon Blanc Blend Sauternes 2001

Winemaker's Notes:

Medium gold-colored with a greenish nuance, this is a fruit bomb-styled Sauternes revealing aromas of smoky oak overlaying orange marmalade characteristics. Uncomplicated, sweet, rich, concentrated, obvious, and blatantly commercial, it will drink well for 10-12 years.

( 29- 31) Medium straw-gold color. Very ripe aromas of pit fruits and vanillin oak with a mentholated aspect. Supple round and thick; a very full essentially gentle wine but with excellent penetration. Very sweet sexy flavors of peach vanilla and coconut. Finishes dense thick and very long with strong oakiness and building fruit. 90-93 points Stephen Tanzers IWC.

Lots of lemon curd and vanilla character with hints of spices. Full-bodied sweet and very fresh with a spicy honey aftertaste. A beautifully balanced Sauternes. Spicy and chunky on the finish. Best after 2008. 3 500 cases made. (JS) Wine Spectator.

( 36- 50) Pale yellow. Exotic expressive aromas of apricot honey white raisin and caramel. Superripe and moderately thick but with sound acids giving it excellent balance. Flavors of toffee caramel honey grilled nuts and spicy oak. The very long finish features a superripe suggestion of marzipan but also lovely limey lift. 91(+?) points Stephen Tanzers IWC.
