Château Doisy-Daëne, a second classified growth in 1855, has been in the Dubourdieu family since 1924. Three generations of passionate wine growers have worked here from father to son. Georges bought the property and increased its reputation due to the legendary vintages until 1945. Pierre, the creator of great wines for more than fifty years, modernised and enhanced Doisy-Daëne. Denis, who is both professor at Bordeaux's Faculty of Oenology and a well-known Oenology Consultant, succeeded him from the 2000 vintage. The expression of great calcareous terroir and of a truly aesthetical family tradition, the style of Doisy-Daëne associates richness and freshness. It privileges the burst of the fruit, concentrated by "the noble rot", the raciness, the balance and the finesse. Doisy-Daëne also produces, since the beginning of the 1950s a great dry white wine, distinguished and very original. Read less

Dubourdieu's interpretation of how Sauternes should express itself is one that I've always leaned towards: lightning bolt-like tangerine acidity, concentrated pineapple/tropical fruit confit and a kiss of vanilla spice. I thought this beauty was also a recession-steal.

80% Semillon gives a lemon flavour, 20% Sauvignon adds some freshness. Great honeyed fruit, lovely edge from the botrytis, not cloying...gorgeous!
