Château Desmirail Margaux 2017

Member Review by duncan 906:

I bought this bottle of wine for £23 from the website www.bidforwine.co.uk/auctions/show/130402.Margaux is an appellation created in 1938,although there has been viticulture here since the Romans, for red wines from 5 communes around the village of that name on the eastern side of the Medoc peninsular about 15 miles north of the City of Bordeaux. It is the home of 21 Cru Classe in the 1855 classification and Chateau Desmirail was a third growth in that classification. My bottle consists of 70% cabernet sauvignon,29% merlot and 1% petit verdot and was aged in oak barrels. I started my bottle last night with my bacon pasta bake supper. It is a full bodied wine with a deep purple colour. There is a blackcurrant, bramble and blueberry style fruit with a suggestion of smoke or cigar box.It is beautifully structured but the tannins are soft, smooth and mellow. In short, this is a first class wine that would pair with most foods
