Chateau Desclans Whispering Angel Rose 2013
A consistent top performer at Zachys, and for good reason - it's flat-out fantastic Rose, year in and year out, at a great price! "Grapes grown from some of the most choice land in the surrounding region of La Motte en Provence, consisting primarily of Grenache, Rolle (Vermentino), Cinsault, Syrah, and Tibouren. Harvesting at sunrise to noon. Optical grape sorting. Destemming and slight crushing at 7-8 C to avoid oxidation. Both the free run and pressed juices are vinified in stainless steel. Batonnage is twice weekly. Temperature controlled." - Winery notes
Editorial Reviews for Chateau Desclans Whispering Angel Rose
Fresh and light on the nose with a floral character, faint arugula freshness and strawberry fruit, all nicely layered. The arugula/under-ripe strawberry action here is making my mouth water. Rather light-bodied with a nice, round mouth feel and gentle flavors of herb in the mouth accenting fruit that is fairly darkly strawberry and verging on cherry. There’s a hint of spice on the back end and a dusting of tannin that adds to the spicy impression on the finish. Dry and fairly intensely flavored considering the delicacy of texture. Hint of alcohol on the finish. 89pts
Unspecified percentages of Grenache, Rolle, Syrah, Cinsault and Tibouren - Fairly deep on the nose with a rather fruit character that recalls peaches and melon with a light jasmine tone, Soft and mouth filling with plenty of red berry fruit, raspberries and strawberries all over the mid-palate. This is very popularly styled with a nice steely mineral tone that offers some cut on the mid-palate and really lengthens the focused finish. A touch of tannins adds some textural interest. 88pts
Fantastic Cotes de Provence rose. Nice strawberry notes with some tart green melon, jolly ranger green apple and nice but not overly assertive acidity.
Great summer rose. Unique taste that isn't too sweet or dry.
Pretty rose with freshness of orange blossom with red fruits notes. Slight hint of stony mineral. Dry, soft tannins with bright acidity to freshen up the palate.
One of the finest, and the most exciting Rose' that I have had the pleasureof being introduced to. Indulge in purchasing a bottle today.Your senses will be pleasantly surprised by this wine for sure! If you have stayed away from Rose's because of its reputation of being dry and not sweet, think again. Sample this one and you be buying it over and over again. Believe me!
Watermelon and grass aroma, very floral. The dry body has light acidity, but the oiliness and kiwi fruit give it strength. Slightly tart finish. Really easy drinking and good complexity.
Whispering Angel is a beautiful whisper pink in shade and pleasant to drink. Bright and fruity with a smoky edge.

Sacha Lichine's Chateau in Provence is a mecca for the delicious rose wine that the region is famous for. The brillant orange-hued pink color of this lively wine comes from a careful touch of skin contact from the Grenache grapes with the fermenting juice. The palate is all ripe strawberry, citrus and lemongrass. Well balanced with bright acidity and rich enough to pair up with salmon or even duck. Wine Spectator scored this 90 points saying "This elegant wine displays a sense of power behind the delicate flavors of dried cherry, licorice, cream and spice. Finishes with notes of dried mango and hints of sage honey. Drink now."
Light peach skin color. Intensely perfumed aromas of redcurrant, strawberry, blood orange and rhubarb, with suave floral and mineral overtones. This lively, precise wine offers tangy citrus and red berry flavors and a silky texture. Finishes tangy... Stephen Tanzers IWC. (unlike the rest of this line-up, this saw no oak) Pale peach skin color. Reticent aromas of orange zest, herbs and honeysuckle are energized by white pepper. Dry and nervy, offering dusty citrus and berry skin flavors but not the round, velvety text... Stephen Tanzer's IWC.
