Château des Tours Vacqueyras Reserve 2005

Member Review by dpdinger:

I recently tried the 2004 vintage from this Chateau and regret not having purchased more. Unfortunately the store was out when I returned and is having troubles getting more. Color was a deep rich purple with a tinge of brown. The nose had medium intensity with aromas of spice (clove) pepper and dark chocolate. On the palate there was wood and leather with some tart berry, medium body and length, medium acid and medium tannins. It is good to drink now but, I think it could go 5 years plus.

Chateau des Tours has been producing particularly fine wines of late. Their 2005 takes full advantage both of the vintage and of their 40-year-old vines. Direct and full on the nose with classic notes of violets, black cherry, and moist earth. The slightly solid structure of the vintage supports crisp red berry flavors in the mouth, with a touch of fresh herbs. Lovely now but will improve with short-term aging.
