Château des Tourelles Red Bordeaux Blend Lalande de Pomerol 2010

Winemaker's Notes:

"Opaque purple, with loads of charcoal, licorice, incense and some exotic Asian spices along with abundant cassis liqueur, blackberry and hints of roasted coffee and spring flowers, it is full-bodied and opulent, with relatively high tannins, but they have sweetened up considerably and seem less aggressive than they did from barrel. The oak is clearly pushed to the background by the wine’s wealth of fruit, glycerin and full-bodied texture...97+" WA 2/13 "A dense and layered wine with lots of ripe and sweet fruit. Loads of currants, plums and tar. This is concentrated and almost jammy with velvety tannins. Powerful. Chewy...95" JamesSuckling.com 02/13 "This is quintessential Pauillac, a great wine with its Cabernet proudly at the fore. It ranks with the 2009 and, with its tannins, is sure to age longer than that vintage. Solidly structured, powerful and dense, with fruit promised for the future, it succeeds with its weight and great concentration...97" WE 2/13

Wine was one of the biggest productions and source of enrichment in the roman empire. This trade was the most important one, as the italy could not assume its own consuption. The culture of the vines itself was different : different sorts of pergolas, vines growing on trees and another philosophy of the plant considering as it was more than a vegetal. Sometimes vines were married with trees to take their strength. Many sorts of wines existed in roman antiquity, from ones from a single place, family of wines with local interpretations or aromatised recipes. Two things let the use of drinking wine growing : creation of a social hierarchy in Rome and use of wine as a medicine. As important and rich people tryed to be unique and receive there hosts with luxury, some famous people have elaborated a taste hierarchy between the wines. Sehr intensive Farbe, schön fruchtig in der Nase, wunderbar nach Süssigkeiten, Lakritze. Im Mund: Fruchtig, jedoch ziemlich harte Tannine. Im Keller belassen und 20 Jahre später geniessen!

A polished, fleshy, forward style, with velvety-textured notes of crushed plum, fig sauce and mulled cherry fruit laced with sweet spice and cocoa hints. A licorice edge drives the finish along. Administrator Christian Seeley thinks the 2010 is the greatest Pichon Longueville Baron he has ever made equaling some of the estate s colossal wines from vintages such as 1989 and 1990. It was certainly showing well when I stopped by the chateau in January. Opaque purple with loads of charcoal licorice incense and some exotic Asian spices along with abundant cassis liqueur blackberry and hints of roasted coffee and spring flowers it is full-bodied and opulent with relatively high tannins

Black currant and dark chocolate aromas follow through to a full body, with chewy tannins, very good fruit and an aftertaste of tobacco and berry. Structured and rich. The excellent second wine from Pichon-Baron. Best after 2012. 8,150 cases made. Wine Spectator. A Bordeaux Blend wine from Bordeaux in France. 2006 Les Tourelles de Longueville 750ml

This outstanding Deuxieme Cru Bordeaux excelled in the great 2010 vintage. The blend is 79% Cabernet Sauvignon and 21% Merlot. The wine was aged in 80% new French oak barrels. With most scoring it 95 and above, Robert Parker gave it 97+ saying "Administrator Christian Seeley thinks the 2010 is the greatest Pichon Longueville Baron he has ever made, equaling some of the estate’s colossal wines from vintages such as 1989 and 1990. The oak is clearly pushed to the background by the wine’s wealth of fruit, glycerin and full-bodied texture. This sensational Pichon Longueville Baron needs 5-6 years of cellaring, and should keep 30+ years."
