Chateau de Tracy Pouilly-Fume 2016

Member Review by duncan 906:

I bought two bottles of this wine from the website www.bidforwine.co.uk/auctions/show/104446 for £16.50. Pouilly-Fume is an appellation created in 1937 [although viticulture here goes back to at least the Romans ] for white wines made of the sauvignon blanc grape from seven communes on the east bank of the upper Loire valley around the village of Pouilly-sur-Loire.Chateau de Tracey is a family owned producer in this areas.I started one bottle last night with my supper of fish cakes. It is a dry white wine. There is plenty of an elderflower and ,pear style fruit there with some citrus or gooseberry particularly on the finish. There was no hint of smoke that some Pouilly-Fumes have and what gives the appellation its name However, it was a good accompaniment to the fish cakes

Aromas of fresh spearmint complemented by mineral and weighty citrus flavours. Classic Pouilly Fume from this historic producer.Pouilly Fume is one of the Loire s most famous wines, perfumed dry whites that epitomise the Sauvignon Blanc grapes. Sauvignon here is often called Blanc Fume because wines made from this variety when grown on the limestone soils with some flint (silex) exhibit a smoky flavour. An organic approach to viticulture is followed but the Chateau is not certified as being organic. No pesticides are used, yields are kept very low and strict canopy management is used. The Chateau uses vine-training systems that result in a well-ventilated canopy and therefore can reproduce conditions that are not conductive to the growth of fungi thus avoiding the need to spray the vines. Chateau de Tracy is rated as one of the stars of the Upper LoireGrapes: 100% Sauvignon BlancRegion: France / Loire / Sancerre AOCMaker: Comte Henry d AssayNotes: A well-balanced fine dry white wine that is full and round on the palate, with a fruity and flinty bouquet and a lingering finish.Serve: At 10-12c as an aperitif or to accompany fish dishes such as sole, salmon or trout.ABV: 13.5%Suitable for Vegetarians and Vegans
