Château de Seguin Red Bordeaux Blend Bordeaux Supérieur Cuvée Prestige 2005
This beautiful Cuvée Prestige has a deep ruby-red colour. On the nose there are aromas of ripe fruits suchs as blackcurrants and cherry and hints of reasted coffee, vanilla and oak. On the palate, the attack is soft and the tannins are well-balanced. There are flavours of ripe fruits and spices. Cuvée Prestige can be cellared for several years.
Before decanting: Color is a deep purple turning to maroon at the edges. The nose has definite berry aromas, with a hint of spice. Taste is berry flavors, nice smooth tannins and a bit of alcohol heat. Finish is spicy, again with some heat. Quite a smooth drinking bordeaux, with nice mix of fruit and tannins. Seems a bit young still to me. Decanting should be beneficial. After 1 hour decanting: Nose is still nice berry and spice, but heat has mellowed out. Berry flavors are still present, but I'm also getting some sour cherry notes. Tannins have smoothed out even more. Finish remains spicy with white pepper, lasting a good 30-45 seconds. Upping my inital rating of 86 to 87 after decanting.
