The excellent 2003 Tavel rosé is a blend of 50% Grenache, 30% Cinsault, 15% Clairette, and 5% Syrah. It possesses a light ruby color as well as elegant strawberry and cherry flavors with hints of pit fruit and spice. Enjoy it over the next year. This large, 108-acre estate was long in the doldrums, but the quality over recent vintages has been top-notch. Moreover, the wines sell for a song, so bargain hunters have been beating a path to their door since the late nineties.

An absolutely brilliant dry rose, and an unexpected value, especially from the prestigious rose village of Tavel, is the 2010 Tavel Rose, a blend of 50% Grenache, 30% Cinsault and the rest Clairette and Syrah. The wine displays plenty of raspberry and strawberry fruit, super aromatics that engulf the taster, and a medium-bodied, zesty yet authoritatively flavored mouthfeel. Drink it over the next year. The color is a light, vibrant pink. The new releases from proprietor Henri de Lanzac are all impressive.

My favorite Tavel producer as far as both quality and value! Richly perfumed with floral and red fruit notes, with a round mouthfeel and fuller body than rosés from other parts of France. Lushly textured, this would be a welcome addition to any holiday meal.

Tavel is the most renowned rosé of France, and you should not be deceived by its pink color! This is a dry wine with robust, spicy, berry flavors. Pasta with pesto and warm summer evening are the perfect companions to this jewel from Provence.
