Château de Sales is the largest wine estate in the Pomerol appellation in France, with a total surface area of 90 hectares. The winery is centered around a 17th century château, with a tasting room and picturesque bamboo gardens. It is named for François Sauvanelle, “Lord of Sales,” who constructed it with his son Jean. Wine production began there in earnest in the late 19th century, and once again throughout the recovery period following the blights of Phylloxera and oidium. More recognition of the wines came in the mid 1940s when the estate was under the direction of Henri de Lambert. Today, his descendants continue to run the operation, overseen by chief winemaker Bruno de Lambert. There is a second wine, once called 'Clos de Sales' but now called 'Chateau Chantalouette'
