Château de Saint-Cosme Gigondas Valbelle 2009

External Review by Premium Wine & Spirits:

Opaque ruby. Hypnotic bouquet of red and dark berry preserves, incense and lavender, with intense star anise and mineral qualities adding vivacity. Deep, energetic and pure, with outstanding focus to its spice- and floral-accented raspberry and mulberry flavors. Tannins build slowly on the finish, which hangs on with noteworthy tenacity and sweetness.

Château de Saint-Cosme:

Very intense, showing terrific cut thanks to racy, thoroughly embedded acidity that drives through the massive core of roasted plum, fig, black currant and sage flavors. The finish lets mesquite and black tea notes weave in, without losing any drive. Seriously packed for the cellar. Best from 2012 through 2023.

One wine that showed no evidence of hail damage whatsoever, and was a great success for Barruol is the 2009 Gigondas Hominis Fides, which comes from sandy and limestone soils. This wine has an opaque purple color and a sweet nose of blueberries and blackberries intermixed with graphite, truffle and white flowers. The wine has terrific fruit, beautiful density and texture, and a long finish.

The prodigious, full-bodied 2007 Gigondas Valbelle exhibits a dense purple color as well as a glorious perfume of spring flowers, blueberries, blackberries, dark cherries, and ink. It reveals prodigious concentration, a 45+-second finish, and no hardness or rough edges. The vintage's acids have given the wine tremendous aromatic and flavor freshness, delineation, and vibrancy despite its enormous size and richness. This wine should evolve for 10-15+ years.

The 2009 Gigondas Valbelle exhibits perfumed floral notes intermixed with hints of underbrush, crushed rocks, roasted herbs, blueberries and blackberries. Medium to full-bodied with moderate tannins, it will benefit from 2–3 years of cellaring and keep for 10–15 years thereafter.

Still tight, but with a gorgeous core of raspberry and black Mission fig fruit in reserve, as well as black tea, chalky minerality and a long, perfumy finish that really stretches out nicely. Should blossom with cellaring. Best from 2010 through 2019.

Inky ruby. Sexy, expansive aromas of blackberry, cola and allspice, with notes of apricot and anise adding complexity. Densely packed red and dark fruit flavors coat the palate, with sexy oak spice and floral nuances adding appeal. Rich and silky in ... Stephen Tanzers IWC. A Proprietary Blend wine from Rhone in France. 2009 Saint Cosme, Chateau de Gigondas Hominis Fides 750ml
