Saint Cosme - located north to the village of Gigondas - is the most ancient estate in the region. The 2008 Gigondas Hominis Fides (100% Grenache from sand and limestone soils) is a brilliant effort for the vintage. Very solid, with briar and sage notes framing the juicy core of mulled currant, crushed fig and bitter cherry flavors. Pomegranate and licorice fill in on the finish. Drink now through 2013. 500 cases imported. -JM Bright ruby. Expansive aromas of black raspberry and spicecake, with notes of rose and allspice adding complexity. Juicy red and dark fruit flavors coat the palate, displaying an attractive floral character. This bright, silky wine finishes with good cut and lingering floral notes. The basic cuvee of 2008 Gigondas has benefitted from having the declassified Valbelle fruit included in its composition. Very Pinot Noir-like, it offers up a medium dark ruby color, aromas of forest floor, berry fruit and a whiff of herbs, minerals and spice.
