I ordered a half bottle of this when I dined alone last weekend at a Calais restaurant at the start of a Euoropean motorcycle trip.It is from the Passetoutgrains appellation It was one of the few half bottles on the wine list and I had not tried it before.I liked it finding it soft, fruity and subtle. This appellation is a blend of gamay and pinot noir with the gamay making up at least one third

A very subtle touch of wood highlights the spicy red berry fruit and warm earth aromas that continue on the suave, rich and delicious flavors that finish in a textured, dusty and delicious backend. This is considerably riper than its ’04 counterpart and is a perfectly acceptable effort in the context of its modest appellation.

This is a Pinot Noir from the Côte Chalonnaise (south of the Côte de Beaune); French Burgundy fans will note the additional ripeness and lower acidity in this example compared to Pinots from further north. Pretty red raspberry and cherry flavors abound, leading into a smooth, earthy finish. Red meat (did someone say Boeuf Bourguignon?) or cheese would match well.
