User Reviews for Chateau de Pierreux

Winemaker's Notes:

Château de Pierreux, a 190-acre estate situated in the heart of Brouilly with a magnificent Château winery built during the Renaissance, is one of the finest domains in the Beaujolais region. It has been controlled and vinified by Jean-Claude Boisset since the 2002 vintage. The 76 hectares of vineyard are planted on highly absorbent sandy soil, consisting of pink granite sprinkled with blue volcanic rocks. The 40-45 year old vines are planted at a density of around 10,000 vines per hectare and are ‘gobelet’, or ‘bush’ trained. Winemaker Patrice Monternier has over 25 years of direct experience working with this terroir, inheriting expertise from his father, the winemaker before him. This wine is bright, deep purple in colour, with a forward, open nose, perfumes of raspberries and strawberries characteristic of good Gamay. Good depth of flavour on the palate, with enough structure to balance the wealth of ripe, cherryish fruit.
