Château de Passavant Anjou-Village Rouge 2003

Member Review by scloughley:

I always find the description "spicy" to be rather confusing since few wines I drink remind me of spice. But I've found one here. This is a great wine at a great price.

In 1998 we converted to organic methods out of a desire for durable winegrowing, a respect for “terroir” and in response to the vision we have for AOC wines. Over a three-year period, a number of techniques that we had already begun to use were extended across the whole estate. These included working the soil, choosing natural products for protecting the vines and using organic compost to put life back into the soil. At the end of this conversion period, our wines were certified from the 2002 harvest as being the product of working methods that complied with the main principles of organic farming, i.e. no GMO, no phytosanitary products, no chemical fertilisers and no weed-killers. Château de PASAVANT was built by Foulques Nerra in the 12th Century, on a site that has long been fortified, overlooking the River Layon, whose slopes are well known for their great wines. Read less

This is a hearty red wine that's based on Cabernet Franc and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon. The fruit is fleshy, dark with a distinct mineral on the finish. Just delicious with any grilled meats or aged, hard cheeses.
