External Review by Premium Wine & Spirits:

Green apple, toffee and lemon tart aromas open to a full body. Very sweet, with caramel, cooked apple and light vanilla flavors. Long and flavorful. Dense and sweet. Best after 2009.

(Barrel tasting) Lemon aromas of surprising intensity allow this wine to stand out from the crowd. But they also give it a dry, firm feel with acidity more dominant than sweetness.

Very clean aromas of caramel, vanilla and ripe pear. Full-bodied, medium sweet, with dried pineapple character and a light finish. Slightly hollow midpalate. Not as exciting as from barrel, but a pleasant wine. Best after 2006.

I suspect most readers will find it hard to get excited about the 2002 vintage for the sweet wines of Barsac and Sauternes after what appears to be a prodigious 2001. However, 2002 is a very fine year for this region, possibly superior to any of the vintages between 2000 and 1991. The wines possess plenty of botrytis, but neither the impressive definition nor the supreme elegance of the 2001s. This is a sweet, full-bodied, fat, concentrated, intense effort that was showing well in September 2003.

Full yellow. Aromas of peach, flowers and marzipan. Dense on entry, then sweet and concentrated in the middle, with a slightly aggressive note of reduction showing today. In an awkward stage, but this boasts strong sappy, spicy material. Like a couple of these '05s, this seems youthfully musclebound in the early going.

(Barrel tasting) Lots of spices, lemon rind and honey follow through to a thick, full-bodied palate. Long finish. Dense and sweet.
