As in past vintages, this is one of the jewels of Bordeaux Supérieur. An uncommon wine, with rich and sleek tannins. Accessible now but will bear positive results with short-term aging.

As far as I am concerned, the 2007 Château de Lavagnac is among the absolute best values we have in Bordeaux. Sleek and powerful, with silky tannins and ripe fruit; the body is packed with dark berry and earthy notes. It is drinkable now but could also be cellared for a few years. An exceptional wine of uncommon character at such a low price point.

A top value, and a proven customer favorite for three vintages running. We love the bright, berry fruit in this young Bordeaux. There is nice complexity too, and balanced and surprisingly lively texture. Top three finisher in our January '05 Bordeaux tasting.

This is a wine that rises well above its station. Much like the fondly-remembered 2000 vintage, this one tastes like $50 - not Hamilton or Jackson, but solidly like Grant. Like the watermarks, hidden threads and RFIDs, wines have identifying marks of quality. Merlot, for instance, can taste like grape Bubble Yum but at its best it combines flavors of plum and berry with chocolate and mocha. Oak can taste like movie theater popcorn butter, but it can also taste like creamy vanilla with toasted almonds. It is this combination of Merlot (75%) grown just outside of St. Emilion and new French oak that allows this Bordeaux Superieur to taste so expensive. However you choose to spell superior, this one is.

A surprising amount of richness for the price, this wine has lots of new oak along with hints of red cherry and leather. It is already showing well, and should certainly round out even more in the coming months.
