Food Pairings for Château de la Gardine Red Rhone Blend Châteauneuf-du-Pape
This is my first Chateauneuf du Pape. I cannot make up my mind if I enjoyed it. It was different from anything I have had before. It smells like cake batter (reminds me of a beaujolais), but not too sweet. Nectarines, red plums and a little blueberries. Light and not overwhelming. Had a sunburnt, over ripe taste to it (reminds me of the smell of clothes dried in the sun!). It was very dry. It might have been opened a little too late.
I had heard this wasn't a good year, so was interested to try this one out and my impression is that while it doesn't seem to be as full bodied as the usual Ch N d P, it is a perfectly drinkable wine and actually reminded me of Santenay. If you can find for $30 or less, buy it and drink it up, it will not improve much.
