Vintage: 2008 07/31/2011

An inviting Chenin Blanc with fleshy body, ripe arpicot flowers and tangy acidity. The vines are situated in the heart of the Saumur's pastoral, historic countryside. Alongside a medieval Château, once stood a priory. Years after the Revolution changed the order of things, the domain became a large property, covering 400 ha ca. 1904. This was broken up and now the Domaine Fosse-Sèche owns 45 ha of Chenin Blanc, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. Practicing Biodynamic.

A mix of Cab Franc and Cab Sauvignon with a savage nose, and a dense, earthy expression of fruit. Clean, medium bodied, matured in 60% cask and 40% in barrique, displaying little else but fruit and balanced acidity on the palate. The vineyards soils are Jurassic silica and are situated in the heary of Saumur's pastoral, historic countryside. on the property, a medival Chateau once stood and next to that a priory. Winemaker's Notes:

91 points Robert Parker: A blend of 98% Cabernet Franc and 2% Cabernet Sauvignon from a biodynamically farmed vineyard, the 2009 Saumur Eolithe exhibits a dense ruby/purple color along with a sumptuous bouquet of cranberries, black cherries, spring flowers and forest floor. Medium-bodied with terrific density, richness and elegance, this pure, stylish red can be drunk now or cellared for another 4-5 years. (Dec 2012)
