Food Pairings for Château de Fonbel Red Bordeaux Blend St. Émilion Grand Cru
Great wine for the price. One glass is not enough!
Had this on 27 March, 2011 with well marinated entrecote. Have had it in my cellar since 2005, so 6 years of cellaring. Elegant and clear, some sediment left in bottle, but not in glass. Highly aromatic, plenty of fruit, plum, cedar, mocha and dark blackcurrant. Also some spices and minerals, and still somewhat tight tannins. A typical St. Emilion at its best - tightish, luxurious and a lot of body. It is getting closer to its prime, but could improve for another 2 to 3 years in the cellar. It is nice to find a great Bordeaux at a reasonable price (this was EUR 20,- back then) from time to time. It does not happen that often these days.
Big wine. Smooth and best with food.

Inky black core surrounded by a bright fuchsia rim. This wine is very gamy on the nose with great smoky, brambly dark red fruit aromas. Rich on the palate with bright acid up front. Lush and sweet on the mid-palate with raspberry and strawberry note... Mike Supple. A Bordeaux Blend wine from Bordeaux in France. 2006 Fonbel 750ml
Good ruby-red. Brooding aromas of cassis, blackberry, violet, dark chocolate, minerals and menthol. Juicy and youthfully tight, with a firm spine of acidity giving this rather serious wine a slightly tart side. But this has the intensity and backbone... Stephen Tanzer's IWC. A Bordeaux Blend wine from Bordeaux in France. 2006 Fonbel 750ml
Alain Vauthier, who owns this small estate, has been ratcheting up the level of quality at Fonbel just as he has at his more well-known properties, Ausone and Moulin St.-Georges. The 2005 Fonbel offers an inky/purple color, sweet aromas of flowers, c... Robert Parker's Wine Advocate. A Bordeaux Blend wine from Bordeaux in France. 2005 Fonbel 1500ml
