Chateau de Flaugergues 'Les Comtes' Rouge 2011

External Review by Wine Gems @ Perriello's:

Languedoc, FranceChateau de Flaugergues Les Comtes may be a tongue-twister but it's also a beautiful red wine gem! This rich red blend of 50% Grenache, 40% Syrah and 10% Mourvedre comes from the Languedoc region near the town of Montpellier. Situated on a hillside, the Mediterranean climate guarantees early ripening of grapes and a delicate aromatic finesse. Estate bottled by winegrowers Henri and Pierre de Colbert.Chateau de Flaugergues Les Comtes is dark ruby red in color with a gorgeous nose of blackberries, cassis, olives, leather, garrigue and spice. Full-bodied with a velvety texture and lively tannins, it is opulent and well structured on the palate and beautifully balanced to enjoy over the next 4-6 years. This red offers a seductive, lingering finish with hints of licorice and laurel. Enjoy Chateau de Flaugergues Les Comtes as an ideal accompaniment to roast leg of lamb, skirt steak, daube Provencal and grilled vegetables.

'Houses in the Foliage', they were the result of a new order of aristocracy, whose wealth came from their service to the King. Planted in the heart of rural domains, they are surrounded by magnificent gardens. They would also become the summer residences of the rich and famous of Montpellier during the XVIII century. In 1696 Etienne de Flaugergues, an advisor to the court of Counts of Montpellier, bought the estate to which he would give his name. Over the next 45 years he expanded and embellished the 'House of the Fields', giving it its distinctive touches. It would seem that the use and arrangement of the grounds around which Flaugergues was built, it's gardens, and the simple but well-groomed quality of the buildings, served as a role model for numerous 'Follies' in the region, these second homes of the Court advisors who wanted to live honourably in the countryside without being too far from the town. In 1811 Flaugergues became a holiday residence for the Boussairolles, owners of a nearby chateau. And so handed down from generation to generation, Flaugergues today bears witness to the way of life of the important people of Montpellier of the time.
