Chateau de Campuget Syrah 2010
Chateau de Campuget is a top quality family owned estate in Costieres de Nimes in France with a history dating back several centuries. The secret of its success is its reliance on the best grapes - Syrah and Viognier, planted in the stony soil, like that of the Rhone, which reflects the sun and enlivens the vines. In its cellar, tradition and progress unite to provide aroma, finesse and bouquet. Chateau de Campuget deploys a wide range of traditional Rhone cepage to produce full flavours in their fruity and spicy wines with great character. Vintage: 2009 Grapes: 99% Syrah and 1% Viognier Vinification and Viticulture: The grapes are vinified seperately, fermented at a cold temperature and then carefully blended to make this cuvee. Unoaked to retain its fruitiness. Tasting Note: Fragrant nose, voilets and soft blackfruit characters make this smooth red wine refreshing and easy to drink.
Since 1941 our only aim has been to produce great Rhône Valley wines whilst respecting our terroir and our identity. The rounded pebbles of the Rhône, the Southern sun, the Mistral, the emblematic grapes from the Rhône Valley : Syrah, Grenache, Viognier – these are the fundamental elements that define the identity of Campuget.
Enjoyed this for the first time tonight. I was quite surprised as it tasted very similar to a pinot noir. We served it chilled with a salad and meatpie...perfect pairing.

Costieres de Nimes, the easternmost appellation of the Languedoc, is effectively part of the Rhone since the climate, soil and topography are so similar to those just over the river in the southern Cotes-du-Rhone vineyards. The relatively uniform soils are marked by large pebbles on gentle, typically south-facing slopes. Chateau de Campuget is a top quality estate near Nimes with a long history. In its cellar, tradition and progress unite to provide aroma, finesse and bouquet. Chateau de Campuget deploys a wide range of traditional Rhone cepage to produce full, easy and spicy wines. Grapes : Syrah 100% Maker : Christophe Dhennin Notes : Classic Syrah nose with a very intense fruit-driven character. Made from 15 year old Syrah vines, this wine shows a smoky, liquorice character and a hint of dark chocolate with a lovely smooth and chunky but velvety texture. No oak ageing but bags of complexity. Serve : At room temperature to accompany roast and grilled red meats. ABV : 13.5%
