Vines have been grown on the Château grounds since Roman times. Situated on the Aurelian Wa - a Roman road formerly linking Italy and Spain - the vineyard was also a trading post of wines; the amphoras used to transport the precious beverage that was made on site. Château de Berne spans 1,500 acres of sumptuous countryside in the heart of Provence. Niched between garrigue and olive groves, the 250-acre vineyard produces 750,000 bottles of acclaimed reds, whites and rosés from Grenache, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cinsault, Carigan, Viognier, Merlot, Sémillon, Ugni Blanc and Rolle grape varieties. A spirit of freedom... Contrary to general trends, Château de Berne strives to offer its rosé wines a genuinely individual personality, as witnessed by the increasing use of indigenous yeasts to instil each vintage with the very essence of Provence. A spirit of pleasure... Château de Berne is highly attentive to feedback from its consumers. As a result, it has decided to reduce the use of oak barrels for wine ageing, hence favouring the naturally fruity flavour of its wines. A spirit of innovation... Keen to innovate and break away from the image of the traditional round bottle, Château de Berne asked SaverGlass to imagine a new and more subtly-shaped recipient, designed to flatter the beautiful colours of our red, white and rosé wines. Reminiscent of a flask, the bottle is embossed with the Château name and bears a slightly-concave front where the label nests. Awarded the "Best packaging 2010" prize, our Cuvée Spéciale, Terres de Berne, Viognier, Merlot, Savannah and Vendanges d'Automne wines are now presented in this new bottle. Our Quatre Demoiselles wine was imagined with a glass stopper, to encourage consumers to give it a second life. Château de Berne is an environmentally-aware vineyard and pays particular attention to ecology and the natural environment at each stage of the wine growing process. Implemented around 15 years ago, its friendly growing techniques, without chemical fertilisers, are compliant with the 'Agriculture Raisonnée' quality label. Château de Berne is also home to a 4* Relais & Château hotel, three restaurants run by our highly acclaimed chef - Sébastien Nouveau and a host of other activities to help you relax during your visit to this magnificent area of Provence. We invite you to try our award winning wine and visit our Estate. Read less
