Another nose that remains somewhat tight with medicinal cherry, leather, and garrigue aromas framed with a little spice, and a little floral nuance. With a lovely combination of liquory, plump, rich fruit, and a bit a bit of bitterness this fills the mouth that drops off quickly on the backend this is a bit short, but the black berry fruit and plum fruit is just so pretty you can help but seeing this as a fun wine. 89pts

Leathery and a little bit of spice.
From .375 this wine is pretty intense- there's a TON of oak here that is completely absorbed by the fruit, which is incredibly dense and rich. The nose started with a sulphur blast, followed by that sweet oak vanilla thing that I can't stand. Once that blew off, it was all black raspberry. The palate is almost overwhelming now- all texture and robust fruit. excellent with steak. Good now with some air, great in 10-15 years.

The blockbuster 2007 Cotes du Rhone Coudoulet, always one of the best bargains from the south, may be the finest Coudoulet ever produced. A blend of 30% Mourvedre, 30% Grenache, and the rest Syrah, Cinsault, and a few other authorized varietals, is incredibly opulent and rich, with sensational notes of black currants, licorice, smoked herbs, and meat juices, a full-bodied mouthfeel, savory tannins, and good acidity as well as length. This outstanding wine can be drunk now or cellared for 10-15 years.

Dense ruby. Sexy aromas of black raspberry, creme de cassis, underbrush and licorice. Supple and quite suave, with palate-coating dark berry flavors. Spicy and sweet on the finish, with the berry and licorice notes repeating. This fruit bomb will be delicious young.
Produced from vines just outside the boundaries of Chateauneuf-du-Pape. The Coudoulet Rouge 2007 is the second wine of the legendary Beaucastel Estate. Full-bodied, with juicy raspberry and slightly bitter black cherry flavors. A little time in the glass opens up this fruit bomb and allows the earthy, peppery spiciness to come forward. Impeccably balanced; you can drink this now or lay it down for a decade.

The opaque ruby/purple-colored 2000 Chateauneuf du Pape offers a profoundly sweet perfume of melted licorice, blackberries, and black cherries backed up by loads of glycerin, full body, and moderately high but sweet, well-integrated tannin. There is a seamlessness to the 2000 that will make it accessible early in life, and thus atypical for Beaucastel. The 1985 behaved in this manner when young, but the 2000 possesses even more stuffing. Like its 2001 sibling, it is a classic blend of 30% Grenache, 30% Mourvedre, 10% Syrah, 10% Counoise, and the balance other permitted varietals. Anticipated maturity: 2007-2025.
Ripe but well focused, with a beam of fig and ganache running through the middle, while licorice, mulled spice and incense notes fill in the edges. A tarry hint frames the finish. Mourvèdre, Grenache, Cinsault and Syrah. Drink now through 2011.
