Chateau de Beaucastel Chateauneuf du Pape(1989)

A similar rich, saturated red-purple hue. This wine seems to have more secondary aromas than the previous two. Quite gamy, even farmyardy. Nevertheless, there is also a floral freshness to the abundance of rich, dark and smoky fruits. On the palate, this is again a charming and fruit-laden wine. Coffee grounds and spice towards the finish, and more spice and a bucketful of tannins on the length. Another wine that will be superb with further bottle age.

this was a leaker but with good fill – nose was pale and decidedly bronzed – definitely damaged on the nose with obvious madeirization but still possessing some good qualitites, less brett than the 90, more mineral, spicy clay, lots of baking spice, dried fruit, and earth notes, very nearly fully resolved, nice bottle sweetness upfront, notes of sweet mint and raspberry jam across the palate, the finish is long and intense but dried out quickly though retaining a core of raspberry. Even damaged this is drinkable
