Muted brick red color. Weak, somewhat veggy nose. Little fruit up front. No middle, very flat and flabby. No depth or finish. Quite disappointing. Bought when it came out and stored well. First bottle in a full case. Better drink quickly!
Core of black cherry, blackberry and cassis, tannins still fairly firm, well balanced, good dose of smokiness. Notes of spiciness: sage and bay leaf. Medium bodied, moderate slightly peppery finish.
On the nose, blackberry, tea and smoke. On the palate: at first, the still very firm tannins maintain a stranglehold on the fruit, but when it finally softens up, this is some serious juice. Blackberry, cherry cola, cassis, leather, spices, toast and hint of white pepper. There is still strong acidity, too. Moderate, slightly peppery toasty blackberry finish.
