Chateau Dauphine Rondillon Loupiac 2011

Winemaker's Notes:

2011 is a miraculous vintage for sweet wine. Intense fruity nose on exotic fruits and citrus notes. The attack on the palate is round and smooth, rich aromas on citrus notes. The acidity is balancing the sugar, giving a charming and round final touch. Fine finish on the fruits.

Basile Debat is producing great quality of sweet wines as testified this medal of 1901 awarded for a Loupiac 1900’s vintage at the Concours general Agricole de Paris 1901. In 1927 Jean Darriet, father in law of Basile Debat has given an important dynamic spirit to the estate by producing his first bottled Loupiac ! A view of excellence because at that period most of the wines were sold and shipped in barrels. In 1948, he has participated to the first Agricultural Show in Paris. In 1952, Guy Darriet, his son, a Chemical Engineer and Oenologist increased the quality of the wines with a natural vine growing and a clever approach of the environment. So, he developed the production of natural wines driven by a trendsetter environmental politic ! In this way, it is healthy vines which grow on a healthy soil. In 1998, Jean-Christophe Darriet, his son, started working on the estate after a wine and vine management background. During 10 years of mutual work, the savoir faire has been transmitted! In June 2009, Jacques Dupont, editorial writer for the famous Point magazine, elected Jean-Christophe Darriet as the best wine-grower of Loupiac. Sandrine DARRIET FROLEON, his sister is in charge of promotion and wine sales. She is working on the international distribution of the wine, especially in Japan. The wine estate is growing with an excellence spirit, thanks to the help of Philippe Darriet, their brother and Professor at the University vine and wine of Bordeaux. Since 1927, the wines of Château Dauphiné-Rondillon are commercialised in bottles and are appreciated as much as the prestigious Sauternes. During a lunch given in honour of the Queen Juliana of Netherlands, the Château Dauphiné-Rondillon 1937 was presented together with Château Yquem 1939. The vineyard is exclusively situated in the high slopes of Loupiac, exposed South-South West. The soil is mainly a clayey chalk. On all the bases of the hillsides, the soil is made of clay or gravel on the top hill. Located on the right bank of the Garonne river, 40 kms from Bordeaux, Loupiac has been producing wines of gold and honey for centuries. It is an ideal configuration for noble-rotted sweet wines: the hills have calcareous subsoil at their bases and clayed gravel at the summits. Their slopes, rich with clayey-calcareous soil, provide the vines with natural rainwater drainage. Some writers found indications of winegrowing in this area as far back as the late 4th century. Mosaics and other archeological discoveries show that Loupiac was inhabited in Gallo-Roman times.   Read less
