Château d'Arsac Red Bordeaux Blend Margaux 2011

External Review:

Weingut: Château d'ArsacRegion: Bordeaux - SuperieurRebsorte: 31% Merlot, 69% Cabernet SauvignonInhalt: 0,75 lAlkoholgehalt: 13,0 Vol.%Säuregehalt: 3 g/LiterRestsüße: 2 g/LiterFassreife: in Barriques gereift (12 Monate)Empfohlene Serviertemperatur: 16 - 18°C Rotwein > Frankreich > Bordeaux

Château d'Arsac:
It is quite possible to combine tradition with modernity and to be a Bordeaux château owner-wine trader and a contemporary art lover. It is quite possible to combine tradition with modernity and to be a Bordeaux château owner-wine trader and a contemporary art lover. For proof of this, just go to Château d'Arsac, set a few miles from La Winery. Bought by Philippe Raoux in 1986 when it was in ruins, this winemaking estate has been restored to its rightful place among the elite after a bold renovation plan. It now has 112 hectares (54 of which are in the Margaux AOC). The estate is also home to a collection of works of art by the greatest contemporary artists - Niki de Saint-Phalle, Claude Viallat, Bernard Pagès, Vincent Monthier, Jean-Pierre Raynaud, Bernar Venet…) - propelling the château into the spotlight of modernity. When he also set up La Winery, where art and wine merge together, Philippe Raoux was merely extending his philosophy. Read less

Nice garnett color. Intense rich nose with slight petrol notes. Smooth start in the mouth, finish is a little tight. Still a little young, although OK if you decant. Medium bodied with cardamom, olive notes.

I am drinking the 2004 vintage at this very moment. Either the 2003 is much better or people are being conned. The 2004 is perfectly smooth and drinkable with a pleasant touch of oaky vanilla but about the same amount of flavour as a half-decent red Chilean costing £5-6 like Isla Negra Cabernet Sauvingnon or Errazuriz Shiraz. I cannot see how anyone can justify charging such high prices for run-of-the-mill Bordeaux reds like this one. Like most French wines it is dreadfully over priced.

I'll always credit this one for making me a lover of wine. Family in France had several cases in the cellar, and we drank all throughout 1997-1998.

A Bordeaux Blend wine from Bordeaux in France. 2000 Arsac, D' 750ml

This medium-bodied, dark plum-colored wine is 67% Cabernet Sauvignon and 33% Merlot Rich, with sweet and supple tannins, this wine represents a good value for a Cru Bourgeois wine.
