Château D' Ampuis Guigal Cote Rotie 2014

Member Review by Olivier:

impressive wine, as expected! you don't need food to enjoy it...but it's also very interesting for food pairing a pure Cote Rotie rich and smooth, with black berry and cocoa aromas

Still young, with lots of life left, drinking fine now can age for another 10 years. Pencil lead on the nose, with ripe soft tannins, still got good fruit, tastes of cherries

Rock-solid, offering dark currant and blackberry paste flavors that race along, thanks to well-embedded graphite and charcoal notes. The finish lets warm fruitcake, plum skin and singed juniper details fill in, with plenty of grip. Mouthwatering acidity and a long echo of sweet tapenade keep this racy and defined. Best from 2015 through 2035.

The 2010 Cote Rotie Chateau d’Ampuis is an off-the-hook effort that easily competes with the more expensive single-vineyard releases. Seamless, gorgeously pure and seriously concentrated and full-bodied, it’s an insanely gorgeous Syrah offers layers of creme de cassis, vanilla bean, creamy licorice and smoked meat aromas and flavors. Still a baby, it needs to be forgotten for 4–5 years, at which point it should offer another two decades or more of longevity. Don’t miss this beauty!

A broad, muscular style, with a distinctive mix of roasted mesquite and apple wood out front, followed by lush raspberry confiture, crushed plum and blackberry fruit flavors. There's ample depth, with smoldering tobacco, juniper and mocha all mixed on the finish. Relies primarily on bass and pumps along nicely. Best from 2015 through 2035.

Bright purple. A compelling, heady bouquet of red and dark berries, violets, Szechuan peppercorn and smoky minerals. Sappy and precise, offering palate-staining raspberry preserve and cherry-cola flavors and notes of candied flowers and spicecake. Nervy and focused on a gently tannic finish that strongly echoes the raspberry and floral notes.

The spectacular 2009 Cote Rotie Chateau d’Ampuis boasts a dense purple color along with abundant aromas of incense, charcoal, lavender, black raspberries, lard/bacon fat, licorice and background toast. This rich, full-bodied, tannic, massive Cote Rotie begs for 2–4 years of bottle age, and should drink well for two decades thereafter. Marcel Guigal believes it is the finest Chateau d’Ampuis made to date (the debut was 1995).

iron- and tobacco-filled finish that leaves a mouthwatering feel. Very impressive. "\
