This delicious desert wine is a deep golden color. The bouquet has floral notes, along with a strong honey and oak. The mouthfeel is very heavy, almost the consistency of honey. To go along with that, the flavor profile was strongly honey-centered, with other notes of sour apple and tartness. It has a very long, enjoyable finish.

It is against my better judgment to taste the sweet wines of Barsac and Sauternes at such an early age, as I find they typically require at least 12 months to reveal the definition/delineation so essential in these creamy, creme brulee, and honeysuckle-flavored offerings. Nevertheless, because this vintage is so highly regarded, I tasted through most of the top estates. The 2003s appear to be somewhat in the style of the 1990s, with high levels of residual sugar (higher than 2001 for the most part) as well as botrytis, low acidity, and fat, full-bodied personalities. This region's harvest began extremely early (early September), and was completely finished within three weeks. It does not appear that the nobleness and racy richness of the 2001 vintage will be found in the 2003s, but readers who like the big, flamboyant, over the top style of the 1990s will enjoy the 2003s even more than I did.
A fresh, lively, zest nose with touches of honey, frangipane and mango. The palate is very fresh and well-defined, viscous honeyed fruits, vibrant acidity and so much freshness on the finish. Harmonious and sophisticated, this is a lovely Coutet with long-term potential. Sublime. Drink 2010-2030. Tasted April 2008.
The nose is of average intensity and rather marked by spices than fruit. Very nice melting smoothness on entry. The wine develops very very fruity aromatic with a fine and melting touch on the palate. The finish is of average length rich in sugar yet roasted and ethereal. Jean-Marc Quarin - www.quarin.com
Offers fascinating aromas of cooked apple, clove and honey that follow through to a full body, with superlively acidity and spicy blanched almond and honey character on the palate. Long and powerful, showing amazing botrytis character, with so much spice and richness, yet also freshness. Even better than the superb 2006. Best after 2015.
This massively structured yet focused Sauternes shows a pale golden color with absolutely brilliant clarity. Lovely tropical nose complete with guava pineapple and golden raisin. Fat and rich in the mid-palate yet remains subtle and well focused throughout. Lively apricot laden finish. This is delicious stuff. Alex Lallos.
Tasted single blind against its peers. The Chateau Coutet 2007 has a very intense bouquet with lemon curd and orange blossom mixed with clear honey. There is impressive precision here almost crystalline. The palate is medium-bodied with very fine viscous entry great weight and intensity with racy acidity. There is also much tension cutting through the layers of viscous fruit on the sorbet-like finish. This is a typical Coutet through and through and it should age effortlessly over 20-30 years.
