Château Coutet Barsac Ex-Negociant 2009

Winemaker's Notes:

Wine Spectator says of this, "Cool and racy, with floral and berry character. Medium-bodied, with a solid core of fruit and a delicate vanilla and berry character. A friendly young wine."-J.S. Robert Parker says, "Notes of truffles, graphite, blackberries, and blueberries jump from the glass of this full-bodied, unctuously textured, thick, juicy St.-Emilion. The abundant tannin is largely concealed by the extravagant fruit and richness. The final blend is approximately 3/4 Merlot and the rest Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. It should drink well in 3-4 years, and last for 15-20."

Château Coutet:
The fine wines from Chateau Coutet are concentrated and sweet with high levels of acidity to balance out the sweetness. The fine wines from Chateau Coutet are concentrated and sweet with high levels of acidity to balance out the sweetness. While the wines are delicious when young, the true nature of an excellent Barsac like Chateau Coutet is only shown when the wines have many years of bottle age. These wines gain complexity and a lushness after a good vintage is stored for a decade or so. Coutet is especially known for the complex aromas it develops. It is important that storage conditions be proper for the life of the wine. Chateau Coutet is known for producing a very elegant and stylish dessert wine. It is rich and full bodied and has the aromas and flavors of stone fruits like peaches when young. The flavors of the young wine develop into a complex fabric of vanilla, honey and cinnamon after years of age. Recent vintages have shown very strong results. Read less

The Coutet 2009 is a sensational effort from Philippe Baly and his team. It has a fragrant nose of honey vervain tea pineapple frangipane and apple-blossom well defined if needing a little more vigour at the moment. The palate is vibrant on the entry informed by touches of apricot and orange peel very focused and tensile towards the long sensuous viscous finish. It has the same minerality exuded by Doisy-Daene and reminds me of a stellar 62 tasted just a few weeks previously. A magnificent Coutet. -Neal Martin Robert Parkers Wine Advocate.

Very lightly toasty, this is more floral for now, with lively honeysuckle and pineapple notes up front, giving way to richer hints of warm brioche, fig, glazed pear and lemon shortbread that should emerge more with time. The long, lacy finish has the poise and balance for long-term cellaring. Sandeacute;millon, Sauvignon Blanc and Muscadelle. Best from 2014 through 2034.

75% semillon 23% sauvignon blanc 2% muscadelle. Deep golden color there are plenty of rich and creamy textures to be found here. Viscous and aromatic complex flavors of ripe honey citrus almond and caramel clusters are layered and linger forever. Roland Hankerson.
