Chateau Coutet Barsac(2003)

The wines at Chateau Coutet are fermented in oak barrels (of which about 1/3 are new each year). After fermentation, which ends within six weeks, the wines age in oak barrels for about 18 months.

A classic match is to serve Chateau Coutet with Fois Gras. Other pairings would be to serve as a dessert along with dishes that feature apricots, pears or peaches.

($37-$60) Bright yellow-gold. Sexy aromas of orange liqueur and spices. Sweet, round and pure, with a lush texture verging on unctuous. And yet this is wonderfully aromatic and light on its feet. Very ripe and very complex in the mouth, with harmonious acids framing the flavors of orange oil, peach and spicy oak. Finishes very long, ripe and seamless, with lingering notes of oaky vanilla and spice. This has been a knockout since the outset.
