André Lurton Since 1987 : President and founder of the Syndicat Viticole de Pessac-Léognan, instigator of the eponymous Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée, for which he obtained official recognition by the tutelary Ministries in September 1987, after 23 years of arduous negotiation. 1982-1998 : President of the Departmental Federation of Oenological Centres, of which Grézillac is a member. 1980-1996 : President and founder of the Association for the Protection and Conservation of Agricultural Land (an association responsible, on behalf of the Chamber of Agriculture, for carrying out studies to further the conservation of the natural agricultural and viticultural heritage of Bordeaux). 1980-1987 : President and founder of the Syndicat Viticole de Pessac et Léognan, covering two geographically recognised viticultural zones in the interim period leading to the establishment of the Pessac-Léognan AOC. 1974-1980 : President of the Syndicat Viticole des Hautes Graves et Bordeaux, militating for the creation of a new AOC for the Northern Graves or Graves de Bordeaux. 1973-1992 : Director, National Confederation of Appellations Contrôlées. Since 1973 : Member of the Board of Directors of the Fédération des Syndicats des Grands Vins de Bordeaux AOC (in charge of Protection of Terroirs). 1966-1986 : 1966-1986 Director, CIVB (Bordeaux Wine-Trade Council). 1965-1996 : Vice President, Syndicat Viticole des Bordeaux et Bordeaux Supérieur (largest wine syndicate in France, numbering over 6000 members totalling 2.5m hectolitres annual production). 1964-1974 : Co-founder and Vice President of the SAFER (Agency for Land Development and Rural Occupancy ) Dordogne-Gironde . 1963-1998 : President and founder of the Grézillac Oenological Study & Information Centre (1000 members vinifying 800 000 HL of Bordeaux wine, representing 12% of regional production). The centre advocates modern vinification techniques, aiming to improve the quality of members' production. Instigated construction of 1200 m2 of office and laboratory premises, mainly auto-financed. 1958-1999 : President and founder of the Regional Agricultural Union for Branne-Libourne-Targon (578 members), serving growers by offering consultancy services on production and estate-management techniques. 1956-1981 : Vice President and co-founder of the Gironde Centre for Rural Management and Economy. 1954-1958 : General Secretary, Departmental Federation of Agricultural Unions (FDSEA). 1953-1999 : Leader of the movement to re-launch the Syndicat Viticole de l'Entre-deux-Mers, dormant since 1924. Creation of Entre-deux-Mers dry white, with corresponding quality control and an Interprofessional Commercial Organisation. Successively General Secretary, President and Vice President of the Syndicat. 1951-1954 : Leader and President of the National Young Farmers Circle (CNJA), an independent national association. On the Board of the National Federation of Farmers Unions and the General Agricultural Confederation. 1948-1953 : Founder then President of the Departmental Young Farmers Circle (Gironde - 4000 members). 1946-1970 : Co-founder, Secretary then President of the Grézillac Farmers Union (in 1954, President for the Canton of Branne).
