Château Cos d'Estournel Red Bordeaux Blend St. Estèphe 1986

Winemaker's Notes:

2ème Cru Classé

Chateau Cos d'Estournel:
Born in 1762 during the reign of Louis XV and died in 1853 under Napoleon III, at the remarkable age of 91, Louis Gaspard d'Estournel had one sole passion: Cos. Having inherited a few vines near the village of Cos, he recognized, in 1811, the quality of their wine and decided to vinify them separately.

Still closed, the nose offers up mineral and oak notes with tons of very cool, restrained mint tinged black fruits. Big and rich on entry with an initial burst of plushness that gives way to a wall of tannin. This is tough but ultimately seems to have the balance and stuffing to turn into something special given sufficient time. 2011-2025

Smells terrific, with great concentration of berry and cassis aromas, but the prominent tannins tend to cover the flavors, requiring cellaring until at least 1995. On balance, the concentration of fruit wins in the end. Wine Spectator. A Bordeaux Blend wine from Bordeaux in France. 1986 Cos d'Estournel 750ml

The 1986 is a highly extracted wine, with a black/ruby color and plenty of toasty, smoky notes in its bouquet that suggest ripe plums and licorice. Evolving at a glacial pace, it exhibits massive, huge, ripe, extremely concentrated flavors with impre... Robert Parker's Wine Advocate.
