Château Connetable Talbot Saint-Julien 2011

Winemaker's Notes:

"Copious black currant, olive, unroasted coffee bean, forest floor and underbrush characteristics are present in this attractive, dark plum/ruby/purple-tinged offering. One of the lighter-styled 2011 St.-Juliens, the well-made Talbot can be drunk over the next decade." --Robert Parker*Robert Parker rating: (87-89 pts.)**We will notify you on arrival summer 2014.*

Château Talbot is a Grand Cru Classé (Fourth Growth, Quatrième Cru) in Saint-Julien in Bordeaux, France. The estate was founded in the 15th century by Connétable John Talbot, English soldier and governor of Guyenne, who was defeated in the 1453 Battle of Castillon. It eventually fell into the hands of the Marquis of Aux, which lasted several decades before acquisition by Désiré Cordier in 1917. It was his son, Georges and his grandson, Jean, who propelled the estate to earn the reputation it achieved as one of the top wines of the Médoc in the later part of the 20th century. Jean Cordier’s daughter, Nancy Bignon Cordier and her husband, Jean-Paul Bignon, currently oversee production.    The vineyard area covers 102 hectares, with the majority devoted to red grape cultivation from vines averaging 42 years old. Cabernet Sauvignon is the dominant varietal, followed by Merlot and Petit Verdot. The whites (Caillou Blanc) are 80% Sauvignon Blanc and 20% Semillon. In addition to Château Talbot, which represents nearly 60% of its production, the estate also produces Connétable Talbot as their second wine.  Read less

This is very fine for the vintage with a lovely blueberry and currants and spice character. Full body, with well-integrated tannins and a pretty finish. James Suckling. A Bordeaux Blend wine from Bordeaux in France. 2011 Talbot 3000ml

Dark color of average intensity. Fruity nose of ripe type wine shows smoothness on the palate more evoking merlot than cabernet sauvignon. Medium length. Will be delicious while young. Jean-Marc Quarin - www.quarin.com
