Considering the proximity of Colombier-Monpelou to the vineyards of Pontet-Canet, the lack of finesse and class is a little surprising. While the wine is supple, pleasant, soft and very approachable today it lacks flair and seems just a little too bland - especially for a Paulliac. Good for lightweight tippling while watching vintage Science Fiction cinema - something I may atest to from recent experience...

This pours an inky garnet color, with scents of red currants, black fruit and fragrant herbs, mineral, and root spices. The texture is plump, but with plenty of grip under all the gorgeous sweet fruit, and luscious and long finish. Expect this classic rendition of Pauillac to drink well early on, but really blossom in a couple of years and continue to evolve nicely over the next 10-12 years.
