Château Citran Red Bordeaux Blend Haut-Médoc 2010

Winemaker's Notes:

Tiefrot, stoffig, vollmundig, mit selten komplexen Geschmacksaromen, angenehmem Tanningehalt und voller Geschmeidigkeit.

Château Citran:
The Citran vineyards are divided into two. One plot is adjacent to the Margaux appellation and is very near to the chateau. The other is close to the town of Avensan, at the heart of the Haut-Medoc appellation. The first is the most spectacular. The Citran vineyards are divided into two. One plot is adjacent to the Margaux appellation and is very near to the chateau. The other is close to the town of Avensan, at the heart of the Haut-Medoc appellation. The first is the most spectacular. The gravel crest on which it lies slopes gently down towards the chateau and its wooded grounds. Cabernet Sauvignon covers 58% of the 90 hectares, and Merlot only 42%. In a never ending race towards quality, the work is never finished, and even now the gravel crests are being deforested to plant Cabernet Sauvignon vine plants. This will increase the Cabernet Sauvignon content in the composition of this Grand Vin. This decision is the living proof of the new owners' professionalism. Before even buying the property, they had noticed a high zone covered with acacia trees, trees which only grow on deep and highly drained land such as the Medoc gravel. Land which is perfect for vines. Over the next few years, these new plots will replace older plots of lower quality whose production will be totally stopped. Read less

In der Nase: Karamel, Lakritze (!!), Süssigkeiten. Sehr intensive Farbe. Leichter Restzucker, schon jetzt feine Tannine. Keine Säure. Einer meiner absoluten Favoriten 2010!!

Château Citran, classified a cru bourgeois in 1932, is one of the most ancient feudal estates in the Médoc, with records going back to 1235. The Marquess de Donissan later purchased the château, which stayed in his family for 600 years.Vines were always grown at Citran, but the vineyard was not laid out in a rational way until the 19th century, under the ownership of Monsieur Clauzel. The estate went through a period of intense development when owned by the Miailhe brothers and then the Cesselin family, who were passionately committed to producing quality wine. After 9 years of Japanese ownership, Citran became French again in 1996 when purchased by the Merlaut family, much-respected winegrowers with deep roots in the Médoc. Citran is now in top form, fully expressing the soil's fine potential. The 100 hectares of excellent gravelly soil, combined with efficient winemaking equipment, have enabled this estate to give the great growths a run for their money.
