Chateau Cissac Cru Bourgeois Haut-Medoc 2014

Member Review by duncan 906:

I bought this bottle of wine from the website www.bidforwine.co.uk/auctions/show/129958 for £10.Haut-Medoc is an appellation set up in 1936 for wines produced in 15 communes on the eastern side of the Medoc peninsular stretching nearly 40 miles north of the City of Bordeaux itself.Winemaking really got started here at the end of the 17th century when Dutch engineers drained the salt marshes and it now includes some of the world's great wine estates.Chateau Cissac is a well known family estate with cru bourgeois status. My bottle consists of 75% cabernet sauvignon,20% merlot and 5% petit verdot and was aged in oak barrels.I started it last night with my supper of bacon and mushroom pasta bake. My initial impresion was how fresh and fruity it was [think blackcurrant and bramble] with a hint of coffee, smoke and licorice and some unobtrusive but structured tannins. In short,I thought this a first class example of a left bank claret
