Chateau Chevalier Cabernet Sauvignon Spring Mountain District 2009

Member Review by EMark:

"Thick-looking" purple in the glass. Somewhat volatile nose, also some woody, olivy nose things. Initial palate shows more fruit--blackberry, cassis--than most Spring Mountain Cabernets. Also, not as much tannin as other Spring Mountain examples I have tried. Very nice tartness from acid makes this an easy drinker--not as big as most Napa Cabs, US$17.99 at Total Wines.

Very nice, full-bodied mouth feel. Some blackberry flavor; some hints of cocoa. Drying tannins, but what do you expect from a Spring Mountain Cab? I am pretty bigoted, but I think Ch. Chevalier is one of the best Cabernet Sauvignon deals around. US$19.99 at Total Wines in 2012.

Nose of chocolate, spice, jam and cola with some black cherry. Nice tannin and nuances of cedar and black tea with the fruit on the palate. Nice and fairly complex.

First red wine I really truly enjoyed. Very smooth and could drink outside of food. Took to Lancy's for a dinner party. It was a blend which I don't know if it's good or bad but I really liked it. Lance did too I believe.

Full bodied spring mountain vino at an excellent price. A favorite staple of ours. Let decant for an hour or so. Also, be sure to pour slowly as this has quite a bit of sediment.

Three glasses

This Gold medal winning vintage is a full bodied, fruit-filled effort. Flavors of black cherries and a touch of bark are evident throughout.
