Chateau Carolena Chardonnay 2007

Winemaker's Notes:

The chardonnay grape is the most widely planted grape in the world. Why? Well, because it's delicious. And, because of its ability to express the "terroir", or the soil and climate of a particular region. Chardonnay is the classic white grape of Burgundy, but it also found a welcome home in the sunny, warm, volcanic soils of California where it can more readily express its rich tropical fruit flavors. This chardonnay is the best of both worlds. On the nose we find ripe pear, lemon, lily, and vanilla, but this is infused with a smokey earthiness that is unexpected and wonderful. On the palate this wine is medium bodied, with a mellow viscosity that is not overly oaked or buttery. It finishes with nice balance and acidity, making it the perfect complement to a variety of foods such as fresh fig with cheeses, caesar salad with grilled chicken, and seafood pasta with cream sauce and lemon. But we would also recommend this wine all on its own, to accompany relaxation and contemplation, outside on a warm evening.
