Château Cantenac-Brown Margaux 2017

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

Earthy, smoky and compact on the nose which remains quite reticent. While very fresh in the mouth, this remains austere at the same time, showing incipient complexity and a nice elegance with fruit that is red and fresh. The tannins are ripe and the wine finishes very freshly with long, pure red currant fruit. Already showing attractive complexity this will be lovely. 91pts

Very herbaceous nose, slightly oaky yet rather classic in a lean style, floral and berries with freshly crushed fruit notes – soft entry, rich and velvety feel, perhaps a bit too extracted, has a bit too much tannin, dark coffee flavors, a bit middy on the mid-palate, woody finish (85-86)

Floral and light on the nose with a grilled meaty edge touched with baking spices and a bit of cooked rhubarb – lean entry, tight, soft ripe tannins, mid-palate is bright but a touch lean, dry finish is short and savory (85-86)

Lively and elegant- not Robert Parker style Bordeaux, but lovely nonetheless.

Tasting Notes: A splendid nose with subtle complexity. Very refined fruit with mineral and floral touches and perfectly integrated oak. Above all, aromatic complexity and rare elegance with a deep, richness in the mouth and beautiful ripe, delicate tannins. Tight but gentle with a very fine acidity and immensely long finish. Vintage Summary: 05 + 10 = 15. In 2015, nature treated us with a cross between 2 other exceptional vintages. Climatic conditions were ideal throughout the entire cycle in the vineyard, but particularly favourable in the Margaux appellation during the ripening period. Picking conditions were thus excellent, allowing us to harvest each of the varietals in every plot at their optimal ripeness. The wines have great aromatic richness and splendid tannic structure. They have everything necessary to allow them to age well for many years to come. Blend: 70% Cabernet Sauvignon 26% Merlot 3% Cabernet Franc 1% Carmenere Barrel ageing: 18 months in 70% new French oak Ageing potential: 10-20 years and beyond. At its best from 2022 onwards.

With marked acidity as well as black fruits this is a wine with weight and richness. It has a dark core of firm tannins although the aftertaste maintains the juiciness. Wine Enthusiast.

65% cabernet sauvignon, 30% merlot, and 5% cabernet franc. Vines are planted on 54 hectares of gravel soils, with a planting density of about 8,500 vines per hectare. Dense, opaque core with a crimson rim. This is a step up in aromatic complexity wi... Alex Lallos. A Bordeaux Blend wine from Bordeaux in France. 2011 Cantenac Brown 6000ml

A forward style, with dark cassis, blackberry and black cherry notes spiked with a hint of damson plum. Long and velvety through the finish, with hints of black tea and tobacco leaf filling in. Drink now through 2018. -JM Wine Spectator. A Bordeaux Blend wine from Bordeaux in France. 2009 Le Baron de Brane 750ml

Good, pure, caressing style, with a direct beam of cassis, lilac and toasted spice that stays rounded through the medium-weight finish, where a hint of loam peeks in. -J.M. Wine Spectator. A Bordeaux Blend wine from Bordeaux in France. 2011 Cantenac Brown 750ml
