...Roasted but lively aromas of cassis, blackberry, bitter chocolate, game and tobacco. A moderately dense, persistent wine with good mid-palate sweetness and stuffing to support its tannins... Stephen Tanzers IWC. A Bordeaux Blend wine from Bordeaux in France. 2001 Cantemerle 750ml

Cantemerle is one of the few crus classes which carries the Haut Medoc appellation. Together with La Lagune, across from Cantemerle on the D2 road through the Medoc, it is one of the first properties of note as one leaves the city of Bordeaux. Cantemerle relies on 52% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot and small amounts of Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. The grapes are hand harvested and sorted, and the juice is fermented in short, wide wood vats. Aging is for one year in 40% new oak barrels.
