Despite the impression one may have received from the media, there are a certain number of estates in the Haut-Médoc appellation producing quite remarkable wine, although they may not currently be in the limelight. This is so for Chateau Camensac. After several decades of relatively mediocre performance, this château has clearly revived the tradition of quality that earned the château a place in the prestigious 1855 classification. This achievement is undoubtedly due to the huge effort made by the Forner family since 1964. The Forner family launched a major renovation programme soon after acquiring Camensac. They installed ultra-modern equipment and entirely renovated the winemaking facilities, in keeping with the estate's large scale. The remarkably restored chateau building symbolises this renaissance. The château (a simple, but beautiful, 18th century manor house) is flanked either side by cellars and outbuildings. "Nature alone, however advantageous, cannot guarantee the production of outstanding wine" is the prevailing attitude at Château Camensac... Despite this modesty, it is obvious that the estate has outstanding natural assets: excellent soil and a dimension that makes it possible to make extremely refined selections. A dynamic, quality-oriented policy makes the most of these assets, giving Camensac balance and distinction increasingly recognised by the wine media. Read less

This is the first wine I've thought well enough of, and that was affordable enough, to buy a full case. Lots of fruit and berry, plenty of tannin, and all-around just a very well-balanced wine. All the goodness of a 2005 Bordeaux, without the ludicrous pricing of the big-name estates. When the tag says $25, and the taste says $75, you just have to stock up. Delicious now, and it should get better with age.

Classic Bordeaux. Spicy wet wool on the nose, delicately blended jerky and syrup. Real classy like.

This wine has a wonderful deep purple color at the center, edging out to bright ruby. The nose is just what you would expect from a well crafted Haut-Medoc, rich aromas of leather, mint, a touch of cedar and dried flowers. The taste is somewhat fruit forward, with muted flavors of cassis and berry that transitions to a bit of sour cherry and some black pepper spice midpalate. The tannins are soft and well rounded, making for a classic, bone dry finish. This red Bordeaux boasts black fruit flavors. The tannins are firm yet in combination with the fruit, makes this an accessible bottle.

Tiefes Granat-Rubin, satt. Intensives, gebündeltes Bouquet, viel Cassis und eine angenehme Fülle darin. Im Gaumen saftig, wiederum füllig. Schmeichelndes Extrakt.

Barrel sample. A big, firm and hard wine, with solid fruits, layers of dry tannin and great power. There's an intensity to this wine with acidity adding to the complexity and structure. - R.V. Wine Enthusiast. A Bordeaux Blend wine from Bordeaux in France. 2005 Camensac 1500ml
